The Lions Club of Calgary & I Can for Kids
Foothills Creamery was honored to partner with the Lion’s Club of Calgary and I Can for Kids throughout July and August. The Lion’s Club of Calgary & I Can for Kids Foundation are non-profit charitable organizations based out of Calgary. Both organizations share a common goal which is to end childhood hunger throughout our city. What many don’t know is that thousands of kids in Calgary don’t have adequate access to snacks and meals throughout the day. These kids often rely on school nutrition programs to meet some of their basic needs. According to a report done by Vibrant Communities Calgary in 2018, 1 in 5 Calgarians are concerned about not having enough money to purchase food for themselves and/or their families. Inspired at the time by 11 year old Sutton Garner, I Can for Kids hosts four major events throughout the summer in different quadrants of the city. Not only are they providing a hot meal for kids and their families, but they also donate a selection of non-perishable food items, fresh fruit and fun interactive games for the kids and families to take home.
This year’s event on Monday, July 29 was a huge success. Members of the Lion’s Club of Calgary & I Can for Kids set up in Calgary’s Northeast community of Pineridge. The Calgary Police Service and Calgary Firefighters also arrived early to help set up and interact with the kids. Due to circumstances outside of their control, some of these kids have had negative experiences with CPS which make the role of the CPS officers more important. The officers are committed to positive interactions with the kids to demonstrate they are around for more than times of crisis and chaos. It’s a time for them to build trusting relationships with the kids of the community. Foothills Creamery is honored to have donated to an inspiring foundation like I Can for Kids. As a family-grown and operated creamery, It is important to Foothills Creamery to support our local community whenever we can.
